As usual, it won’t be easy being in the minority on the Suffolk County Legislature. An open seat in the 3rd district is hoping to be taken over, a seat held for 12 years by the opposition.
Rudy Sunderman, the very popular Republican candidate, is working very hard, but his opponent has an edge having been the top aide to Kate Browning for the past 12 years. Kate who was term limited (Suffolk County Legislators are only allowed to serve for 12 years), is popular.
But Suffolk County Republicans carried Trump to victory, so the leadership is banking on the Republicans to come out for their candidates.
LaValle is no novice to politics – starting as a 25 year old councilman on the town board appointed by the charismatic John Powell, he rose through the ranks eventually becoming Brookhaven Town Supervisor. Hence many years later, he finds his committee the underdog in the upcoming legislature races. Can he pull the rabbit out of the hat? We shall see!
