On June 22nd, Councilman Kevin LaValle was joined by Suffolk County Legislator Tom Muratore and officers from the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) for a “Coffee with a Cop” event at Selden Bagels Your Way. “Coffee with a Cop” was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011 when members of the Hawthorne Police Department were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day. The key to “Coffee with a Cop’s” growing success is that it opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together.
“Coffee with a Cop is a great program,” said Councilman LaValle. “It helps to encourage communication between the police, residents and business owners and creates a stronger bond that is beneficial to all. I thank Selden Bagels Your Way for hosting us and the Suffolk County Police Department for all they do to keep Brookhaven safe.”
