The Gateway’s 2017 Children’s Theatre Series

SLIDEChildren'sTheatreThe Gateway brings top-notch entertainment to our local community and that includes productions specifically for young people. This year, The Gateway’s Children’s Theatre Series features more shows than ever!

First up, Jeff Boyer Productions presents Bubble Trouble – An Interactive Bubble Show at Gateway Playhouse on Friday, June 30th and Saturday, July 1st at 11am. A bubble volcano. Bubble roller coaster. A kid in a bubble? Jeff Boyer takes bubbles to the max in this one-man bubble extravaganza. It’s the craziest, most creative bubble show around. Jeff juggles bubbles, sculpts and builds with bubbles, makes fog-filled bubbles and more. Mixing comedy, music and interactive bubble-magic, he engages and delights audiences of all ages. A hit…anywhere there’s air!

Next, Gateway’s School for the Performing Arts presents their production of Dreamworks’ Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr. at Gateway Playhouse on Friday, July 7th  at 11am & 2pm; Saturday, July 8th  at 11am; Friday, July 14th  at 11am & 2pm; and Saturday, July 15th  at 11am. Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound on stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime.  Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar Jr. follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar!

Then, prepare to be tickled pink as Vital Theatre Company’s production of Pinkalicious rolls into the Patchogue Theatre on Friday, July 21st at 11am & 2pm. Pinkalicious can’t stop eating pink cupcakes despite warnings from her parents. Her pink indulgence lands her at the doctor’s office with Pinkititis, an affliction that turns her pink from head to toe – a dream come true for this pink loving enthusiast. But when her hue goes too far, only Pinkalicious can figure out a way to get out of this predicament.

Gateway’s School for the Performing Arts’ production of Disney’s The Lion King Jr. is up next at Patchogue Theatre on Friday, July 28th at 11am & 2pm; Saturday, July 29th  at 11am; Friday, August 4th  at 11am & 2pm; and Saturday, August 5th  at 11am. Disney’s The Lion King has captivated the imagination of audiences around the world. Now, the African savannah comes to life on stage in this special version of the musical tailored for younger audiences. Join Simba, Rafiki, and the unforgettable cast of characters as they journey from Pride Rock to the jungle…and back again, in this inspiring, coming-of-age tale. Combo Package Available! The series wraps up with the popular Off-Broadway Illusionist, The Amazing Max, at Patchogue Theatre on Friday, August 11th at 11am & 2pm. Max Darwin (Nickelodeon, National Geographic Channel) displays a unique brand of visual magic, comedy, and audience participation that will thrill audiences of all ages. During the past 10 years, the Amazing Max has performed over 3,000 shows with celebrities such as Uma Thurman, William Baldwin, Diana Ross, Steven A Cohen, Ethan Hawke, Jeremy Sisto and Tommy Hilfiger.
