Throughout the year, the SJC Long Island Recreation Club organized several fundraising initiatives with a goal to raise $2,000 for the 20th anniversary of the ALS Ride for Life. Michele Frati, senior administrative assistant in the Office of Student Life, introduced the Cash Bucket (instead of Ice Bucket) Challenge which raised $900 and had all SJC Long Island clubs participating. The largest amount of $308 was raised by Alpha Gamma Delta and the Student Government Association matched the amount. The students also designed and sold t-shirts raising an additional $715, held a bowling fundraiser that brought in $830 and received $375 in other donations. The Recreation Club exceeded their fundraising goal and were able to present Chris Pendergast, president of ALS Ride for Life, a check for $3,000 on Monday, May 1, 2017.
