Run Wild – 5K Run At Holtsville Ecology Center On June 10th

RUN WILDBy Barbara LoMonica
Mark your calendars and save the date, June 10th, when the Brookhaven Wildlife Center, Inc., and the Kaeli Kramer Foundation team up to co-sponsor their Run Wild 5K. The event is being held at Brookhaven Town’s Ecology Center in Holtsville with net proceeds to benefit the Brookhaven Wildlife Center, Inc., which provides food and veterinary care to greater than 100 injured and non-releasable wild and farm animals, and to the Kaeli Kramer Foundation which rescues and provides sanctuary for horses and farm animals, including mustangs Callie and Valor who call the Ecology Center “home.” Organizers are inviting participants to join Brookhaven Town Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro in helping to support both not-for-profits organizations.
Mustang rescues Callie and Valor, just turned nine-years-old and the pair have been the centers of attraction at the annual fundraiser which is celebrated exclusively at the Ecology Center. This is the two organizations’ first time joining forces to benefit animals. Participants may choose to walk or run the 5K distance.
A host of activities has been planned for those who register with something for everyone at every age including free fitness classes, vendors, a farmers market, puppet show, animal education, face painting and Chinese auction, kids’ flower planting and crafts. Guest runners are welcome to join organizers for the Town of Brookhaven’s Annual Movin’ In Brookhaven Fitness Fun Day.
Participants will receive a finish-line photo and the first one-hundred registrants receive a free tee-shirt. There will be winners named in all age groups, as well as the Top 3 male and Top 3 female overall runner awards.
Linda Kramer, a co-founder of the Kaeli Kramer Foundation, commented on the upcoming event: “We really want people to walk to support these two great causes that provide support and protection for horses which are slaughter-bound and for non-releasable wildlife at the Ecology Site.
Participants may pre-register early on-line at www.elitefeats.com for $25 or at the gate the day of the event at 7:30 a.m. for $30. The event begins at 9 a.m.
