McGann-Mercy Student-Athletes Announce College Decisions

Devyn O’Brien signed her National Letter of Intent to attend Fairfield University with scholarship for cross country, while her parents, coach, and administration looked on.

Devyn O’Brien signed her National Letter of Intent to attend Fairfield University with scholarship for cross country, while her parents, coach, and administration looked on.

On Wednesday, April 12 – National Signing Day – five student-athletes at Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan High School announced their college decisions. Devyn O’Brien received a scholarship offer to run Cross Country at Division-I Fairfield University, signing her National Letter of Intent among friends, family, and the administration of McGann-Mercy High School.
Kaitlyn Butterfield received a scholarship for Track and Field at Division-I SUNY Albany. Butterfield signed her National Letter of Intent on November 9, 2016 during the National Letter of Intent early period, and was present again at National Signing Day at McGann-Mercy.
Additionally, Victoria Barlow, Emily Cleary, and Matthew Raynor all had their Division-III Student Athlete Celebratory Signing. Barlow committed to running cross country at Johnson & Wales University. Cleary will play tennis at Roger Williams University. Matthew Raynor committed to Alfred State University to play football.
All of the student athletes signed during an event surrounded by coaches, administration, family, and classmates, led by athletic director Melissa Edwards. Ms. Edwards was in awe of all the hard work each of these students put in to achieve their goals of continuing their athletic careers in college. She also noted the hard work and support of their families and coaches to help them on this path.
Faculty and administration were on hand to congratulate the students on their wonderful accomplishments. “I am so proud of our scholar athletes,” said Dr. Carl Semmler, Principal at McGann-Mercy. “These outstanding students are dedicated both in the classroom and with their respective teams, and I am excited to follow them as they continue their success at the NCAA level.”
