William Floyd NJROTC Provides Support for U.S. Troops Overseas

WFSD NJROTC

Naval Science cadets from the William Floyd NJROTC unit recently helped out at the “Boots on the Ground NY” military care package pack out, held at the Emporium in Patchogue, NY. Each month, Boots on the Ground NY ships packages to troops stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea, Kuwait, Turkey, Africa and other remote locations.
According to Commander Jay Tweed (USN/Ret.), senior naval science instructor at William Floyd High School, the cadets have been doing their share of community service with their collection efforts at nearby drug stores collecting various products and money for troops overseas. “Many of the U.S. facilities overseas have adequate supplies of snack food and beverages, personal hygiene products, CDs and DVDs, and magazines and books. But what troops really enjoy the most is receiving a favorite brand of something that might be unavailable. Prepaid international phone calling cards are also a really good bet for a donation,” he said.
Cadets also helped raise $510 at a Wendy’s fundraiser thanks to receiving a portion of the restaurant’s inside sales, as well as generous support from the community.
“The men and women of our military love to hear from all of us and mail can certainly brighten their day,” said Commander Tweed. “It is likely the most important item we can send them, so please keep writing.”
