WFSD RobotsWilliam Floyd High School physics students and the 2016 Long Island Regional Champion William Floyd Robotics team, had the opportunity to interact with two U.S. Army explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) robots courtesy of the U.S. Army Career Center in Selden, NY. The robots, the TALON and the iRobot 501 PackBot, were developed to protect service personnel and first responders against explosive threats. Soldiers from the 63rd Ordnance Battalion out of Fort Drum, who are in charge of these robots, let students operate the robots and also try on an EOD bomb suit.
