Jr Robotics Team Qualifies for CompetitionThe Longwood Middle School Junior Robotics Team #2182 Dakers was recently named the winner of the Robot Design Award and Mechanical Design Award at the SBPLI-FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Lego League Qualifier. The team will now advance to the Championship Round held on March 5 at Longwood High School.
Presented by the School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, the competition is a technology-focused program combining hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere. It is the result of an alliance between the FIRST organization and Lego. The program introduces middle school and junior high school students to the fun experience of applying math, science, and technology to real-world problem-solving.
“Since October, our team has worked collaboratively to create their robot,” said Club Advisor Scott Dakers. “Through the students’ knowledge of the robot, research, teamwork and the understanding of core values, they were able to earn the award and move forward in the competition.”
The Junior High School Robotics Team #2183 also earned the Research Award.
