First Snowstorm Hits Long Island

PlowThe first major snowstorm hit Long Island  Saturday morning and continued into late Saturday night with 1″+/hr snow rates and 1/4 mile or less visibility. A winter storm warning was in effect due to the fact that Suffolk County received totals of 6 to 12 inches of snow across the island, with the highest totals on the East End. Gusting winds late Saturday afternoon/evening caused some blowing and drifting of snow across open areas, which kept road crews busy as road surfaces got recontaminated.
