Community Member Spotlight

A married, stay at home mother with one son named Gavin exemplifies what volunteerism in their community really is.
After her diagnosis with ovarian cancer in 2009, this battle only made her fight harder and she overcome a difficult obstacle in her life. Danielle Barnett became more resilient since her diagnosis with a profound respect to those in the medical field.
Danielle joined the Center Moriches Fire Departments EMS staff and has been a member for approximately four years. Joining the Center Moriches Fire Department EMS and being an Emergency Medical Technician, joining has been a Passion of hers because of her love for medicine and has been one of the most rewarding experiences she has done for her community.
Besides being involved with the Center Moriches Fire Departments EMS staff, Danielle was previously involved with the Relay for Life in Center Moriches as well as being on the Board with SEPTA at the Center Moriches School District. Danielle is also a CPR and First Aid Instructor at Center Moriches Fire Department and heads the Fire Prevention and is an assistant advisor for Explorer post 540.
Danielle states that her son, Gavin, who is in the 5th grade at Clayton Huey Elementary School is her role model for wanting to get involved in helping out her community. Danielle states it’s good to invest your time within your community in any capacity and you let your passion lead the way to help those in your hometown or surrounding communities.
Danielle has been on over 240 EMS calls in one year and was recognized and awarded the High Points award for answering as many rescue calls as she did. Besides that award, Danielle was also recognized and awarded the first ever, “Arthur C .Rumph Memorial Award” for outstanding service to the department.
Danielle and her husband Don are proud that their son Gavin wants to follow in Danielle’s footsteps by promoting volunteerism amongst his peers and his love for the Fire Department and getting involved. Gavin is also a proud member of the Explorer Program held at the Center Moriches Fire Department. Danielle encourages children from ages 11 to 17 to join the Explorers at Center Moriches Fire Department. There is no cost to join the Explorers or join the Department. Applicants just need to demonstrate their love for the community and willingness to help others.
“Danielle is one of the most dedicated and hard working individuals within the Center Moriches Fire Department she has come across”, stated Rebecca Primus.
As a member of the Center Moriches Fire Department EMS team, Danielle and other members visit schools promoting fire prevention as well as demonstrating First Aid and CPR to students at area schools. If your group is looking to schedule a visit or would like Danielle and the EMS Crew to visit, please contact the Center Moriches Fire Department at 631-878-0089.
