3rd Annual Brookhaven Highway Safety Day a Success

106sm028 (1)The third annual Brookhaven Highway Safety Day drew hundreds of Brookhaven residents and families. The event, co-hosted by Superintendent of Highways Daniel P. Losquadro, and Councilman Neil Foley, featured a free car seat safety inspection, bicycle safety rodeo and various highway safety demonstrations and interactive displays from participating organizations.
“This year’s Brookhaven Highway Safety Day was once again a successful and well-attended event,” said Superintendent Losquadro. “More than 100 children received hands-on bicycle safety instruction after their helmets and bicycles were inspected. And, in conjunction with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National Seat Check Saturday, our certified technicians inspected and fitted 30 car seats. I am proud to offer this annual event to Brookhaven residents in an ongoing effort to encourage and promote good, safe habits while traveling our roadways.”
Councilman Foley said, “Highway Safety Day is a great opportunity for all parents to make sure their children are safe in the car and on their bikes. This is a program that saves lives and I thank Superintendent Losquadro for making highway safety a priority in Brookhaven Town.”
Hosted by the Highway Department’s division of traffic safety, Brookhaven Highway Safety Day is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration with a grant from the New York State Governors Traffic Safety Committee. This year’s participating organizations included the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, the Suffolk County Police Department, Holtsville Fire Department, Empire State Motorcycle Safety, Long Island Rail Road, and Long Island ABATE.
The Brookhaven Highway Department holds monthly car seat inspections, as well as various traffic safety-related events and classes at Safety Town throughout the year. For more information, call 631-363-3770.
