William Floyd Girls Tennis On Verge of 5th Straight Division Title

WFSD Girls Varsity TennisThe William Floyd girls varsity tennis team, under the leadership of two-time USTA Coach of the Year Dave Pia, is on the verge of clinching their fifth straight division title. At 10-1 overall (7-1 League), the Colonials have already punched their ticket to the postseason for the 14th consecutive year. During this impressive streak of four straight division titles leading up to this year, the Colonials have sported an 84-6 overall record including an undefeated regular season, two trips to the county finals and a County Championship in 2014 with an upset victory over Half Hollow Hills East.
Led by Emily and Brooke Fernandez who are a combined 22-0 in the first- and second-singles positions, the team also consists of Jamie Senetto (fourth singles/9-2), as well as Sarah Mazzarella and Kasey Hammel (first doubles/9-2), Hailey Loughlin and Brianna Gonzalez (second doubles/9-2) and a combination of Chloe Degrauw, Delaney Kane, Alyssa Drell, Katie Senetto and Jessica Jones for third doubles (10-1). Alyssa Drell and Delaney Kane have also shared time as third singles.
“The players are extremely aware of our successful tennis tradition,” said Coach Pia. “They know the past, and how hard the former players worked and their achievements. It’s very important to them to maintain that degree of success. I’m proud of their continued commitment to work up to their ability and always striving to become the best tennis players they can be.”
The Colonials have three matches left including two division contests against Ross and East Hampton. A victory over Ross guarantees them at least a share of the title and a win over East Hampton will result in clinching the division outright.
