JUDY, JUDY, JUDY
by Barbara Guarino Kruk

Those among us who has reached the right vintage, like priceless wine, will remember Cary Grant in one of the old movie classics from 1939, “Only Angels Have Wings” wherein he called to the lead female actress, “Judy, Judy, Judy!”
For those of us who knew Judy Moran she will be remembered as a classic. She was a pillar of St. Jude’s RC Church in Mastic Beach and within the community. She worked for years in the meat department of King Kullen in Shirley. It was there she met a dear mutual friend, Arlene Vitale. They worked together, and they prayed together. Both were extremely active at church. They forged a deep, loving relationship. Sadly, when Arlene died, Judy never really recovered from her passing.
I had the pleasure of knowing Judy Moran for longer than I care to admit. She was someone who was always in the picture, whether it was at the supermarket, the neighborhood or at church, she was always there.
Her ever-present smile and kind personality made you gravitate to her. Always willing to lend a hand when there was a volunteer needed. Her love of children led her to become part of the Baptismal team. Her devotion to the faith was evident in her participation as a Eucharistic Minister.
Judy was a member of the St. George Seniors, loved to watch crime dramas on television and according to her son, for an Irish girl, she made the “Best Italian Sauce” this side of Italy. She loved her pets, Moochie the cat and her dogs Peanut Butter and Freedom. She enjoyed taking long walks along the beach at Smith’s Point.
Judy was the real article; what you saw is what you got. She wore her emotions on her sleeve and gave as good as she got. A fine woman who loved her children Richard, his wife Susanne and her daughter Kelly. She was a devoted grandmother to Abigail and Patrick. She was also devoted to her church family and her faith.
“Judy, Judy, Judy” only angels have wings…you will be sorely missed.
