National-Dance-ChampionsThe Royalenova Performing Arts competition team made dance history at Starbound National Talent Competition’s Chicago national finals by winning all four showcase grand championship awards. For the first time in Starbound’s 24 year history, one studio won all four awards that were up for grabs at the showcase, a red carpet event that allows the best numbers of the preceding week’s competition to re-compete for the title of Grand Champion in their respective categories. These categories include junior, teen, senior, and production.
Suspense built on stage as dancers eagerly awaited the results of the competition held at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois. Royalenova was announced as the winner of the junior, teen, and senior showcases, and after the announcement of the history-making fourth win in the production category, the audience with over 1,000 people in attendance went wild with excitement for Royalenova’s dancers. Home audiences were sharing in the moment, as over 4,900 people were tuned in on the live stream. Starbound Director, Sandy Coyte, said that she was receiving emails and Facebook messages from dance studios all over Long Island and across the United States, as they watched with wonder to see if Royalenova could pull off the sweep.
During an interview on the red carpet, studio Director, George Eleazer III, stated that after 15 years of running a studio, he has his dream team. Royalenova is no stranger to being national champions, and winning all four of the categories was both exciting and humbling. Hours of work at the studio, dedication from the students and teachers, and lots of fun in between resulted in a winning equation. With 2016 yielding eight graduating seniors, it was a beautiful ending to their journey with the team, and for seven of them, a tremendous accolade to take with them as they are continue on to study dance in college.
