Charles E. Walters Elementary Students Donate Decorated Socks to Young Patients

CEW Students Donate Socks to Young PatientssmmThe third grade students at Charles E. Walters Elementary School (CEW) recently gathered in the school’s multi-purpose room to assemble some very special packages for some very special young patients.
Over the past week, the students had decorated brightly colored tie-dyed socks and added non-slip bottoms for young patients being treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. The socks were placed in individual bags with personal messages of comfort and good wishes.
“It feels good to do good things for other people even if we can’t be with them,” said student Christian Bosco. “I really enjoyed making the socks and I hope our packages brighten their day.”
“There are so many people dealing with this disease; whether it is themselves or a friend or family member,” said third grade teacher Justin Chichi. “We wanted to do something for them. The students did an amazing job and we were so impressed with their handwritten notes. They knew that they just did something very special.
